CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Two in a row for the Centerville boys basketball team.
After an overtime win on Friday over Monroe Central, the Bulldogs posted a 70-35 victory over Union on Saturday night.
“Guys are stepping up and doing their jobs,” Centerville Head Coach Seve Beach said. “They know we are right there and were finally starting to shoot the ball better. It’s opening things up for us.”
Matt Stamper led Centerville with 25 points against the Rockets (1-10), while Alex Brandon tossed in 14 points.
“It was a continuation (from Friday),” Beach said. “We moved the ball well again tonight.”
It didn’t start out that way as Union scored the first basket of the contest at the 6:32 mark of the opening period.
The Bulldogs got a 3-pointer from Justin DuPree and another basket from Stamper to go on top 5-2.
Beach, however, wasn’t pleased with the start as he called a timeout with 5:27 remaining in the first frame.
“You have to create your own energy,” he said of trying to inspire his team during the 30-second chat. “After that, their intensity and getting after it was much better.”
Centerville led 16-4 after the first quarter and 35-13 by halftime.
Stamper got hot in the third quarter with 14 points as the Bulldogs pulled away to a 57-25 margin entering into the final stanza.
DuPree finished with nine points. Justyn North and Kody Witham led the Bulldogs with five rebounds each.
Centerville (3-8) travels to Union County on Wednesday for a Tri-Eastern Conference affair.
