RICHMOND, Ind. – The Centerville softball team bounced back on Saturday after a season-opening loss at Northeastern as the Bulldogs won the Richmond Invitational with a pair of victories.
“A great momentum boost for the team,” Centerville Head Coach Avon Miller said. “The team did a great job rebiulding after last week’s loss.”
The Bulldogs beat the host Red Devils 9-4 to win the title as Lauren Honkomp led the way.
Honkomp tossed a complete game as she struck out 11 and limited the Red Devils (2-5) to three hits.
Offensively, she had three hits including a three-run homer.
Centerville grabbed a 6-0 lead in the top of the third. After Richmond picked up two runs in the fourth, Honkomp blasted her homer in the fifth to extend Centerville’s advantage.
The Opener
Centerville began the day with a 15-4 win over Jay County in five innings.
Savana Kates was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, who scored four times in the first inning and added eight runs in the third to put the game away.
Kates also knocked in three runs for the Bulldogs against the Patriots.
The Bulldogs (2-1) are at Seton on Monday.
