CENTERVILLE, Ind. – This one got away from the Centerville girls basketball team.

“We lost focus for about two possessions,” Centerville Head Coach Jason Searcy said of the Bulldogs 54-45 overtime loss to Franklin County on Friday.

Maggie Curts had just scored a rebound basket for Centerville to give the Bulldogs a 34-24 lead with 2:11 to go in the third period.

“No. 1 (Amber Calihan) made a three and then they got another possession and made a quick basket,” Searcy said. “They just got back in the game.”

When the third quarter ended, the Wildcats (4-0) had cut Centerville’s lead to 34-31. Franklin County would score the final basket in regulation with 1:15 to go as the team’s would enter the extra session at 39-39.

Franklin County was able to gain an advantage in the overtime period with a pair of 3-pointers in the first two minutes.

Lauren Honkomp led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Merissa Ross added 11. Kaylin Smith tossed in nine points. Ross and Smith both had four steals. Savannah Kates led Centerville with seven rounds.

Calihan finished with a game-high 16 points for the Wildcats.

Despite the loss, Searcy was optimistic about his squad.

“We’ve played three games and I felt like we got better each and every night,” he said. “I like what I see. Its slipped through our fingers a little bit (tonight). We’ll go and work on the little things and get better.”

Centerville (0-3) is back in action at Muncie Burris on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
