CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Ricky Torres led the Centerville boys basketball team to a 52-37 victory on Friday night over Lincoln as both teams finished the regular season with a Tri-Eastern Conference affair.
“It was a good night for the Bulldogs,” Centerville Head Coach Seve Beach said. “We had a very solid defensive effort.”
“It’s good to get a win to end the season and heading into the sectional,” Beach added.
Centerville must wait a week to return to action next Friday in the second round of the Class 2A sectional at Hagerstown.
The Bulldogs (6-14, 2-5) will face Tuesday’s Hagerstown-Lincoln winner. The Golden Eagles (8-13, 2-5) and Tigers (15-8) open the event that night.
Torres scored 23 points with three 3-pointers. Justin DuPree was on the only other Centerville player in double digits as he scored 10 points with a pair of treys.
Garrett Pumphrey led the Golden Eagles with a double-double consisting of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs led 9-6 at the end of the first period and then 24-13 by halftime. In the third quarter, Centerville pulled way to build a 43-22 advantage. The Golden Eagles rallied in the final stanza to close the gap, but Centerville’s lead proved to be too large.
Centerville won the JV game 54-47.
