Three of the top four teams in the College Football Playoff rankings stayed in the coveted positions with Notre Dame joining the group in place of LSU.
“There is a relative stability at the top and considerable volatility just below that,” Committee Chair Jeff Long said during Tuesday’s teleconference. “If you look at the number of games remaining, how many conferences have their toughest competition ahead, and then combine that with the results of games played to date, do not be surprised if teams move up or down quite a bit.”
Clemson (9-0) remains No.1 after winning 23-13 over Florida State (7-2), which was No. 16 at that time and now in the same position despite the loss.
Alabama (8-1) jumped from fourth to second after a 30-16 victory over LSU, which dropped from No. 2 to No. 9.
Ohio State (9-0) won 28-14 over Minnesota (4-5) to stay in the third spot.
Notre Dame (8-1) picked up a 42-30 win at Pittsburgh (6-3) to move up one position in the rankings.
Iowa (9-0), Baylor (8-0), Stanford (8-1) and Oklahoma State (9-0) are ranked fifth through eighth. LSU and Utah (8-1) round out the Top 10.
