LIBERTY, Ind. – The Union County boys basketball team won its Tri-Eastern Conference opener on Friday night as the Patriots defeated Knightstown 47-38.
Cameron Donovan led the way for the Patriots with 17 points.
Mason Miller and Preston Scott both added nine points.
Scott had seven of his points in the final period as he converted 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Derek Dearth finished with eight points.
For the Panthers, Jarred Porter tossed in 14 points, while Garrett Thomas had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Knightstown won the JV contest 44-40. The Panthers outscored the Patriots 22-2 in the final period.
Cooper Strawsma led Knightstown with 16 points.
The Panthers (1-2, 1-1) are at Bethesda Christian (1-1) in Danville on Saturday.
Union County (2-1, 1-0) entertains Hagerstown (1-1, 0-0) next Friday.
