Eighth-Ranked Winchester Remains Unbeaten


WINCHESTER, Ind. –
The eighth-ranked Winchester girls basketball team had five players in double figures on Wednesday as the Golden Falcons defeated Hagerstown 77-31 in a Tri-Eastern Conference contest.

The Golden Falcons had an 18-2 advantage after the first quarter on their way to a 7-0 overall mark and a 3-0 rebound in the TEC.

“My girls were shocked at themselves,” Winchester Head Coach Holly Gutierrez said. “To show that kind of potential this early on is great for us.”

“We’re excited,” Gutierrez added. “We definitely have things to work on, but this our best team ball we’ve played. Each game we’ve had somebody different in double figures. Hopefully, that continues, so we always have somebody on.”

The Tigers are now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

“We weren’t ready to play and it showed,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said. “They blizted us.”

“We played hard.” Oliger continued. “They were just the better team tonight. We will regroup. We will be ready to go next ball game on Tuesday night.”

Maddie Lawrence recorded another triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Golden Falcons.

Kira Robinson added 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocks.

Becca Chamberlin had 15 points, while Shelby Miller finished with 13 points and six assists with Hannah Graft tossing in 11 points.

Madison Brown led the Tigers with eight points. Kyley Farmer added six points, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.

Camryn Bradway, Lacee Dale, Kassidy Oliger and Shay Doerstler all had three rebounds.

Hagerstown started the evening with a 43-12 victory in the JV contest.

Makynna Matanich led the Tigers with 10 points with Makayla Matanich added eight points,

Kaibrey Campbell topped the Golden Falcons with six points.

The Tigers play Morristown (2-4) at home on Tuesday.

Winchester entertains Delta (5-2) next Wednesday.
