BERNE, Ind. – The Winchester football team started the season on Friday with a 13-3 victory at South Adams.
Elias Gates led the Golden Falcons with 63 yards rushing and scored the first touchdown of the affair on an 80-yard punt return in the opening quarter.
In the second period, Winchester quarterback Austin Lawrence threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Vince Prescott.
Lawrence was 6-of-11 for 123 yards. Prescott had three grabs for 89 yards.
Jonathan Thornburg led the defense with 13 tackles, while Prescott had an interception.
Winchester (1-0) entertains Northeastern next Friday. The Knights defeated Knightstown 46-7.
