WINCHESTER, Ind. – The Winchester boys basketball team opened its Tri-Eastern Conference slate on Friday with a 63-58 win over county rival Union City.
The difference in the contest was Winchester’s long range shooting as the Falcons canned 11-of-21 shots from behind the 3-point line.
“They did a really good job of shooting the three,” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said.
The Falcons led 18-15 after one period and widened the margin to 39-24 at the intermission.
“We made some changes halftime and we came out and forced the issue,” Baldwin said.
The Indians had a 22-13 edge in the third quarter to close the gap.
“They did a wonderful job of not giving up,” Winchester Head Coach Matt Fine said during his post-game radio interview.
“I felt like we let them back in the game a little bit just with our lack of toughness,” Fine continued. “We didn’t guard the ball very well in the half-court. They drove it down our throat. We’ve got to be much better just across the board.”
Winchester was able to maintain a 52-46 lead at the third stop. The Indians were able to cut the deficit to four points late in the affair in the Winchester Fieldhouse.
Kiante Enis led Winchester with 24 points with five treys. Michael Georgi added 12 points and five rebounds for the Falcons.
Tyler Thornhill topped Union City with 20 points and five steals. Isaac Davison contributed 15 points for the Indians.
Winchester (2-0, 1-0) returns to action at Shenandoah on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Union City (4-2, 0-1) travels to Tri for another TEC contest on Saturday, Dec. 19.
