CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Winchester’s baseball team got a solid pitching performance from Joe Webb, but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons had their season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Knightstown in the Class 2A Sectional at Centerville.
“We played a good ball game,” Winchester Head Coach Chris Martin said. “We’re a good ball team. We just struggle at times to find our identity and believing in ourselves.”
Webb tossed a complete game for the Falcons as he gave up just four hits with seven strikeouts against the defending sectional champs.
“Joe Webb pitched a great game,” Martin said. “One pitch.”
That one pitch resulted in a grand slam homer by Knightstown’s Jake Bearhope in the third inning.
It was hit second homer in two days with the bases loaded as he hit one in his team’s 19-1 win over Union County on Wednesday.
Winchester scored its run in the second on an infield single by Dalton Hensley.
The Falcons (6-18) are already looking forward to the future.
“It’s a good build block,” Martin said. “I’m excited.”
