UNION CITY, Ind. – A pair of touchdowns in the first quarter got the Union County football team started on Friday as the Patriots went on a 42-12 win over Union City in a Tri-Eastern Conference contest.
Derek Dearth, who ran for 231 yards on the night, scored on runs of five and 59 yards to put the Patriots up 14-0 after one period.
In the second quarter, Blake Fields tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Donovan and followed that with a 67-yard score to Ryan Hensley as Union County went on top 26-0.
Both teams scored before halftime.
Cameron Vincent had a 25-yard run for the Indians, while Dearth added to his evening with a 77-yard jaunt to the end zone to make it 34-6 at the intermission.
Kyler Purdin finished the scoring for Union City as he picked off a pass and went 75-yards for a touchdown.
Fields and Donovan hooked up for the second time on a scoring pass on a 12-yard play in the third quarter.
Fields completed 13-of-26 passes for 214 yards.
Hensley led the Patriots with five receptions for 113 yards. Donovan also had five grabs with 72 yards.
Union City’s Trevor Thompson was 13-of-33 completions for 148 yards.
Vincent ran for 57 yards. Purdin had six catches for 56 yards and Mason Good had three receptions for 56.
Defensively for the Patriots, Nate Webb had seven tackles and an interception. Joe Gentry had six stops.
Rawlin Mills led Union City with five tackles.
Union County (2-1, 1-0) entertains Winchester next Friday, while Union City (1-2, 0-1) travels to Monroe Central.
