FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – There are a lot of statistics missing from the Northeastern football roster as Head Coach Mike Roeder enters his 21st season with the Knights.
Obviously, the Knights have gone down this path before as they look to win the record fifth straight Tri-Eastern Conference title after posting a 7-3, 6-1 mark in 2016.
The leading ground gainer returning is Connor Bray, who had 729 yards as a dozen touchdowns last fall.
Bray is also one of more versatile players for the Knights as he records a pair of scores receiving, while finding the end zone on a punt return and a fumble recovery.
Cole Retter is back as well. He had nine catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He was a leader on the defense with 72 tackles.
David Berger, who had three quarterback sacks a year ago, also returns.
The other seniors for the Knights are Hunter Kirkland, Jeremy McNew, Brandon Grubb, Conner Rader and Kaleb Loaiza.
After the season opener this week, the Knights just into the TEC title race as they entertain defending co-champ Winchester on Friday, Aug. 25.
