LEWISVILLE, Ind. – Continued improvement.
Tri Head Girls Softball Coach Bryan Peggs wants his Titans to get better each time they take the field.
“Like every season, we ask our girls to step it up a notch from the previous season,” Peggs said.
The Titans finished 12-11 a year ago.
“We want to place better in the TEC,” Peggs said. “We want to improve our overall record and we want to win our sectional.”
Tri was seventh in the Tri-Eastern Conference in 2015 at 1-6.
“The TEC will be tough again this year,” Peggs said. “There are so many good teams in the conference. That type of competition is what has helped us be successful in the tournament the past two years.”
“Our goal is to get into the top part of the league,” Peggs continued. “That will be tough with the talent and good coaching that is in our conference.”
The post-season will also be a little different for the Titans who won the Class 1A sectional last year at Monroe Central.
“Our sectional has changed with the addition of Lincoln and Seton,” Peggs said. “That will make for a tougher tournament.”
The other squads in the field that will compete in Union City this spring are Randolph Southern, Union and Seton.
Mackenzie Peggs was the team’s top hitter in 2015 with a .556 batting average. The senior shortstop hit four homers with four doubles and four triples as she earned All-TEC honors.
Senior pitcher Abbi Coffman was 9-8 as a junior and 13-7 as a sophomore. Kristen McNew is the other senior on the team.
Karlee Winkhart, Bayley Prince, Kelsey Ryan Donald, Jesse Spong, Bailey Coffman and Kirsten Falck are the juniors on the 17-player roster.
The sophomores are Kierstyn Conyers, Lauren Bouslog, Breanna Reece, Payton Moore and Destiny Taylor, while the freshman are Taylor Craft, Kassidy Stewart and Kaley Harrison.
Tri begins the season at home against Seton on Wednesday, March 23. The Titans visit Northeastern for their TEC opener on Friday, April 15.
