WINCHESTER, Ind. – The Winchester girls basketball team celebrated Senior Night on Monday as the Golden Falcons defeated Centerville 83-25.
Autumn Dixon, Sierrah Love and Liz Pegg were honored as they prepared for their final contest in the Winchester Fieldhouse.
“This was their call,” Winchester coach Holly Gutierrez said. “This was a big deal to the girls. I am so proud of the way they played. Those three in their own way did something great.”
The Golden Falcons have one more home game, but it will be played at the high school against Cowan on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Pegg enjoyed the moment as she scored 15 points and added six steals.
“It is really fun,” Pegg said. “I love this team so much and it means a lot to me to play with them.”
Winchester (15-4, 5-1 in the Tri-Eastern Conference) took control early with a 22-4 start in the opening period.
“It’s just super exciting to be playing at this level going into the tournament,” Gutierrez said.
The Golden Falcons are set to open the Class 2A sectional at Northeastern in two weeks against the Bulldogs (5-12, 0-5).
“This is where we needed to be a month ago,” Gutierrez said. “We’ve had our eye on the big prize this whole time and we’re still working towards that.”
Maddie Lawrence led Winchester with 22 points. Kira Robinson added 11 points to go with a game-high 11 rebounds. Love tossed in 10 points.
Carlie Doolin topped the Bulldogs with seven points, while Ella Chew and Alex McFarland each finished with six points and five rebounds.
The Golden Falcons won the JV contest 46-20. Cami Miller led the way with 14 points, while Becca Chamberlin added 12. For Centerville, Kyla Ray finished with 10 points and Alexis Harmon contributed eight.
Winchester returns to action on Thursday at Randolph Southern, while Centerville entertains Tri the same night.
