Hagerstown Boys Earn TEC win

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – The Hagerstown boys basketball team posted a 63-55 win over Centerville on Friday in a Tri-Eastern Conference contest.

Trent Weiss led the Hagerstown boys with a career-high 26 points.

“Trent did a heck of a job of accepting the role of the guy who was going to step up,” Hagerstown Head Coach Bobby Jones said. “Trent is a very good shooter. He had his feet set and was taking good shots. He stepped up big in Jared’s absence.”

Hagerstown’s leading scorer, Jared Andis, missed the game due to an injury.

“I’m happy with the way we were able to execute in certain situations,” Jones said. “Our kids played hard as always.”

Centerville led 11-10 after the first quarter, but the Tigers were on top 33-25 by halftime.

“It’s a tough one,” Centerville Head Coach Seve Beach said. “We had three dogfights with them last year. I knew it was going to be exactly that kind of game again.”

“We had a little trouble finishing around the rim,” Beach added. “I don’t think we shot as well as we have this year.”

The Tigers scored the first two baskets of the second half to go on top 37-25.

“They came out a won the first couple of minutes of the second half and got momentum,” Beach said. “We weathered it and got it back down to two possessions.”

Hagerstown led 41-36 after three frames.

“Just a typical TEC battle,” Jones said. “If you are going to have any success in the TEC, you’ve got to win road games.”

Jalen Oliver added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Tigers and Trey Kelley finished with 11 points.

Centerville had three players in double figures as Matt Stamper led the way with 16.

Justin DuPree tossed in 15 points as he led the Bulldogs with eight rebounds. Michael Brewer contributed 12 points.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as the Tigers (5-0, 2-0) travel to Monroe Central and the Bulldogs (3-3, 0-2) play National Trail at home.
