MARION, Ind. – Eleven of Hagerstown’s cross country runners posted personal bests and five others season bests at the Marion-IWU Invitational on Saturday.
One of the personal bests came from Kaleb Slagle. Running with a strained hamstring, Slagle followed-up his Hagerstown course record on Tuesday with a 16:30 effort, also a team-best performance.
Logan Tuttle ran a PR at 16:40 as did each of the following: Eli Halcomb, 17:43, Seth Richards, 18:08, Alexander McKee, 18:23 and Blake Creech, 18:47.
As winners of last years’ Gold Division Race, the Tiger boys were moved into the Elite Race this year where they were by far the smallest enrollment school in the race and where seven of the 20 school were ranked in the Top-25 in the All-Class Coaches’ Poll, including No. 2 Ft. Wayne Carroll, who was edged for the team title by No. 9 Indianapolis North Central.
The Tigers, currently rated fifth in Small-School Poll, placed 14th of 20 teams, recording a season-best 17:25 team average.
The Marion meet features nearly 3,000 runners in multiple divisions and produces many of the best times in the state each year.
Boys Order of Finish: Slagle, Tuttle, Halcomb, Richards, Holden Robinson, McKee, Dylan Napier, Creech, Adam Nadler
Top Five Team Scores: Indianapolis North Central 75, Ft. Wayne Carroll 94, Warsaw 116, Chesterton 153, Homestead 183.
On the girls side, Logan McRoberts and Anna Shafer again led the way. McRoberts was 19th in the Gold Division Race (school enrollments 650 and under) in a season-best of 21:37 time and Shafer was 28th in a personal best 22:01.
Madison Zetzl, Teresa Rojas, Baylee Foor, Kenzie Neeley and Kassidy Oliger each recorded personal bests as well.
As a team, the Tigers placed 11th of 25 squads and ran a season-best team average of 23:16.
