HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – A scoring barrage of 3-pointers in the third quarter on Tuesday made the difference as the Hagerstown girls basketball team went on to defeat Tri High 50-32.
The Tigers led 26-18 at halftime before Hallie Rogers hit a three treys in the third period, while Madison Brown and Camryn Bradway each nailed one.
“That was huge going forward,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said.
The result was a Hagertown 46-28 advantage by the end of the frame in the Tri-Eastern Conference affair.
“We felt pretty good,” Tri High Head Coach Jeff Miller said of his team’s situation at the intermission. “We played the last four minutes of the half with Payton (Moore) on the bench.”
However, that changed with Hagerstown’s long range success.
“Our heads went down a little bit,” Miller said. “We’re young. We’ve got to learn from this.”
As big as the scoring outburst was for the Tigers, holding Moore to just seven points may have been more important as the all-conference senior came in averaging 20.5 points per contest.
“We just never got going,” Miller said. “They’ve got two bigs that they battled in there with her.”
Those bigs were Kassidy Oliger and Taylor Kelley.
“Both of them just frustrated her a played her great and did everything that we were supposed to do,” Chris Oliger said. “Those two girls got it done.”
In the final stanza, both teams managed just four points apiece.
“But we ran clock,” Chris Oliger said. “We played a complete ball game from start to finish. I’m very proud of these girls. We played like a team.”
Rogers led the Tigers with 17 points, while Oliger finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Kelley tossed in six points and grabbed six rebounds. Brown ended with six points.
For the Titans, Kaley Harrison had nine points and four rebounds.
Auburn Harvey had eight points and Moore pulled down six rebounds.
The Titans (2-1, 0-1) return to action on Friday as they face TEC foe Winchester (4-0, 1-0) at home, while the Tigers (3-1, 2-0) travel to Randolph Southern (5-0) on Saturday.
