HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The youthful Hagerstown girls basketball team learned some lessons as the Tigers fell 41-32 to Eastern Hancock on Saturday (Nov. 7).
“We have a lot to learn,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said. “(They) exposed things that we need to work on in practice and things we have get better at.”
“You can always take positives away for a game,” Oliger added, “Taylor Kelley showed that she can be a dominate force on the interior.”
The sophomore center finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Savannah Houck also finished with eight points.
Brytni Dale tossed in six points, while grabbing 10 rebounds.
“I thought we rebounded the ball well, we just didn’t hit shots,” Oliger said.
Hagerstown had 36-20 edge in rebounds, but hit only 7-of-26 shots for 26.9 percent.
Slow Start
Neither team scored until the 4:18 mark of the first quarter when Eastern Hancock’s Emiley Carlton hit a pair of free throws. Carlton scored all seven of her team’s points and Dale had two buckets for the Tigers as Eastern Hancock led 7-4 at the first stop.
In the second period, the Royals were able to build a 21-10 advantage by the intermission.
The Tigers responded to begin the second half as they closed the gap to 29-23 by the end of the third frame.
From that point, the Royals were able to just keep the game out of reach from the Tigers as they tried to battle their way back into the contest.
Carlton led the Royals (1-0) with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Tigers (0-1) were scheduled to entertain Delta on Friday, Nov 13, but that game will mostly likely moved to Tuesday, Nov. 17.
If that change happens, Hagerstown will then return to action at Knightstown on Saturday, Nov. 14.
