RICHMOND, Ind. – Hagerstown’s boys golf team won the Richmond Invitational on Thursday as many Tri-Eastern Conference teams prepared for Monday’s sectional hosted by the Red Devils at Forest Hills.
“It was the finest team performance in my four years here as golf coach,” Hagerstown Head Coach Billy Mullin said. “Our 316 is a great score at Forest Hills.”
“We been knocking on that door in the sectional for four years now,” Mullin added. “Hopefully, we can break through.”
The Tigers have qualified for the regional the last years and finished second in the sectional in 2016 and 2017. The Tigers won sectional titles in 1959 and 1969.
Carson Orr led the Tigers with a medalist score of 74.
“Carson played great,” Mullin said. “He played textbook Forest Hills golf, hitting many irons off the tee and keeping the ball below the pin.”
Orr’s teammates Caleb Cochran (78) and Kyle Cochran (80) were second and third, while Centerville’s Hunter Morgan (81) was fourth.
Centerville’s Sam Roberts (82), Richmond’s Jake Miller (82) and New Castle’s Trevor Turner (82) all tied for fifth.
