HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown softball team won its Tri-Eastern Conference opener on Friday as the Tigers defeated Union County 5-3.

Falling behind 3-0 after three innings, the Tigers answered with five runs to post their four straight victory.

The Tigers tied the contest in the fourth with three runs highlighted by RBI hits by Ashley Strunk and Morgan Masters.

In the fifth, an unearned run gave the Tigers the lead before they added an insurance tally later in the frame.

Brytni Dale (3-1) picked up the win for the Tigers with a complete game on the mound giving up four hits and striking out five.

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead by scoring in the first before Tara Williams knocked in a pair of runs in the third to increase their advantage.

Rachel Sparks (4-2) gave up just five hits as she got the loss for the Patriots.

Union County (6-3, 0-1), which had won six in a row before Friday’s loss, gets back on the field quickly as the Patriots entertain Franklin County in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Tigers (4-2, 1-0) visit Lapel on Monday.
