HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown volleyball team won the Wayne County Tournament title for the third straight time on Saturday as the Class 2A No. 4 Tigers defeated No. 11 Lincoln 25-11, 25-20, 25-11, improving to 27-1 on the season.
The Tigers (27-1) reached the final with a 25-19, 25-11, 25-16 win over Centerville, while the Golden Eagles (20-7) beat Northeastern 27-25, 25-11, and 25-12.
Against Lincoln, Jessica Swimm led the way for the Tigers with a dozen kills as Beth Jenkins and Aimee Hoodlebrink finished with seven each. Jenkins had 16 digs and 18 assists.
Kylei Klein had 10 kills against Hagerstown. Rachel Merida had 22 assists. Lauren Weston finished with 13 digs and Cheyenne Hedrick had 11.
The First Round
For Hagerstown against Centerville, Swimm had 10 kills with Taylor Kelley adding seven. Jenkins had 16 assists and Hannah Rogers finished with 15. Victoria Pierson had 24 digs and Brytni Dale ended with 14. The Bulldogs (13-10) were led by Kelsee Troutwine and Addie Walther, who had eight kills each. Morgan Toschlog had 15 digs and Addie Walther added 14 digs. Lizzy Walther had 13 assists.
Klein had 14 kills against Northeastern with Emmie Pugh adding five kills. Merida contributed 28 assists. Laynie Russell had four aces. Madison Siggers had six digs. For the Knights (8-19) Tatum Jordan had six kills and five blocks. Kasey Andrews had four kills and four blocks. Dayna Newman had 18 digs with Alexis Middleton finishing with six digs and 10 assists.
All of the teams are back in action on Tuesday with Tri-Eastern Conference contests. Hagerstown is at Union County with Lincoln visiting Centerville. Northeastern entertains Tri.
