CARMEL, Ind. – Mason Rader was grateful for the chance.
The Centerville junior improved his individual performance on Wednesday as he shot an 80 in the final round of the IHSAA State Golf Championships at the Prairie View Golf Club.
“It was a really good experience,” Rader said. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to play. There was a lot of tough competition and it was a great learning experience.”
Combined with Tuesday’s score of 86, Rader finished with a 166, which put him in a tie for 71st out of 100 golfers.
“I made less big numbers today than yesterday and had a pretty good round going until the last three holes,” Rader said.
Centerville Head Coach Roger Martin was pleased with Rader’s outcome.
“I was extremely proud of Mason for the way he responded today following his disappointment with his struggles yesterday,” Martin said. “He had a very good first nine with a 37.”
“A few shots got away from him on the second nine and putts didn’t drop,” Martin added. “It was a great honor for Mason and he represented our team and school wonderfully.”
Cedric McAree of Hamilton Southeastern was the individual winner. His two-day total was 137 after carding a 72 on Wednesday. He tied a course record with a 65 on Tuesday.
Noah Gillard of Center Grove was second with a total of 139 (70-69).
Richmond’s Jake Miller finished 10th with a score of 146 (72-74).
