There have been only 15 unassisted triple plays in the Major Leagues since 1900 with the Cleveland franchise involved in six of the solo efforts.
Neal Ball had the first in the modern era on July 19, 1909, while playing shortstop for the Cleveland Naps against the Boston Red Sox.
Ball began his his time in the big leagues in 1907 with the New York Highlanders (Yankees) and was eventually purchased by Cleveland during the 1909 season.
Ironically, Ball finished his career with the Red Sox and was a member of the World Series champs in 1912.
Perhaps the most famous Cleveland triple play came in the 1920 World Series by Bill Wambsganss when the Indians second baseman turned the trick by himself against Brooklyn.
Another Indians second baseman, Asdrubal Cabrera, performed his feat in 2008 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The other unassisted triple plays involving the Indians were executed against them.
George Burns of the Boston Red Sox did it on Sept. 14, 1923, while Johnny Neun accomplished the rare play on May, 31, 1927. Burns and Neun are the only first basemen to ever complete an unassisted triple play.
The final one against the Indians was by shortstop Ron Hansen of the Washington Senators on July 30, 1968.
The most recent unassisted triple play in the majors was by Philadelphia Phillies infielder Eric Bruntlett against the New York Mets in 2009.
