FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – Bryten Stewart scored 20 points on Friday night as he led Union City to a Tri-Eastern Conference victory at Northeastern.
Stewart hit three of Union City’s eight 3-pointers as he scored a dozen points in the second half.
The Indians led 16-12 after the first quarter, but by halftime Northeastern led 30-27.
Union City bounced back to lead 44-42 at the third stop and the Indians were able to hang on for the win.
Wes Mote added nine points for the Indians.
Trevor Thompson and Gabe Loesch both finished with eight points.
The Knights were led by Freeman Brou and Carter Lumpkin, who each tossed in 10 points.
Jalen Hillard and Alex Reynolds contributed nine points apiece.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday in first round of sectional play.
Union City (5-18, 1-7) faces Randolph Southern (8-14) in the Class 1A Blue River Sectional at 6 p.m.
The Knights (13-10, 5-3) square off against Winchester (7-13, 4-4) in the Class 2A event in Hagerstown at 7:30 p.m.
