PORTLAND, Ind. – The Union City boys tennis team won the Jay County Sectional title on Thursday evening as the Indians defeated defending champion Winchester 3-2.
The Indians (12-5) jumped to a quick lead after Chase Jefferis needed less than an hour to claim the No. 3 singles win.
Zach Bradbury and John Carpenter followed with a victory at No. 2 doubles to give Union City a quick 2-0 lead.
Winchester won the No. 1 doubles position, before the Indians No. 1 singles player, Trevor Spence, clinched his position as well as the match for Union City.
The victory enabled Union City win its first sectional title in tennis for the first time in over two decades.
The Indians head to the Marion Regional on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
