LIBERTY, Ind. – The fourth-ranked Northeastern girls softball team defeated No. 2 Union County 10-0 on Monday in the Class 2A sectional hosted by the Patriots.
The Knights (19-5) face Hagerstown (5-15) on Tuesday in the second round at 5 p.m. The Tigers beat Centerville 7-4 on Monday to advance.
Mikayla Hornung got things started for the Knights as she knocked in three runs with a double in the first inning.
Chaise Helton drove in two runs in the second as Northeastern built a 6-0 advantage.
Sierra Gilmore scored three times and had a triple. Katlyn Williams had a pair of hits.
Katie Schneider had seven strikeouts in five innings to get the win for the Knights as she posted her ninth shut out of the season.
Fayth Hill had the only hit for Union County, which ended the season at 21-6.
