FERDINAND, Ind. – Northeastern’s magical softball season came to an end on Saturday as the Knights fell 5-4 in the opening round of the Class 2A semistate at Forest Park.
Sierra Gilmore and Leah Hoskins led the fourth-ranked Knights (22-6) with two hits each against seventh-ranked Henryville (23-7).
Mikayla Hornung gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning before Henryville went on top 5-2.
Hoskins had a two-double in the fifth to close the gap, but neither team scored from that point.
No. 6 Indianapolis Scecina (25-4) won the event as the Crusaders beat No. 15 South Spencer (18-8) 1-0 before defeating Henryville 10-4 to take the title.
