FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – A quick start by the Northeastern girls basketball team on Friday set the tone as the Knights defeated Centerville 41-24 in a Tri-Eastern Conference affair.
The Knights led 7-0 after one period on the way to their first win.
“It was amazing,” Northeastern girls coach Princess Darnell said. “It was something we’ve obviously been working for. This was our first, which always feels really good.”
“We’ve been working really hard,” Darnell added. “It’s really nice to see our hard work pay off.”
By halftime, the Knights were on top 15-7.
“It was our energy,” Darnell said. “We really focused on being mentally prepared for games. We had a good crowd and the crowd kept growing as the game went on. The girls really fed off of that.”
Madi Clay and Olivia Harris led the Knights with 11 points each. Mikayla Hornung topped Northeastern with six rebounds.
For the Bulldogs, Cassidy Weiss was their leading scorer with 10 points. Ella Chew led the way with six rebounds.
Northeastern (1-7, 1-1) entertains Daleville on Tuesday. Centerville (2-7, 0-2) is at Union City on Wednesday.
