On the day that the Northeastern won its own eight-team tournament, the Knights maintained their No. 3 ranking in the latest Class 2A poll released by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
The Knights (7-1) have won three straight since falling to Seton a week ago, which dropped them from the top position in the poll.
Northeastern beat New Washington 65-32, Class 1A No. 15 Gary 21st Century 83-78 and Union County 62-56 to claim the tourney title.
Last week’s No. 1 team, Barr-Reeve (8-0), kept its spot, but the Vikings now share it with Lapel (7-1). Both of those teams are in action on Wednesday.
Barr-Reeve (8-0) faces Brownstown Central (6-0) in North Daviess Classic, while Lapel is at Sheridan (2-6).
Northeastern’s next contest is against Lincoln in the opening round of the Wayne County Tournament at Hagerstown on Thursday, Jan. 7.
