FAIRLAND, Ind. – The Knightstown softball team won its second sectional title on Thursday as the Panthers defeated host Triton Central 8-3.
It was the first Class 2A crown for the Panthers with the other championship coming back in 1988.
The Panthers (16-13) will face Tri-Eastern Conference foe Centerville (10-9) on the road Tuesday in the regional round.
Centerville won the earlier contest 4-2 on May 1. The Bulldogs beat Union County 7-6 to earn their regional ticket,
After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers dented the plate in every frame after that on their way to the victory.
Sidney Vise went the distance on the mound with four strikeouts.
Vise, Becca Haney and Lexi Goodpaster had two hits apiece.
Courtney Carlton had a homer and two RBI.
