CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Mason Miller scored 31 points on Thursday as he led the Union County boys basketball team to a 63-38 victory at Lincoln.
“We knew tonight was going to be a battle,” Union County Head Coach Jesse Moses said. “(Lincoln Head) Coach (Rodney) Klein always has his guys ready.”
The Golden Eagles finished the first quarter with 15-10 advantage over the leaders of the Tri-Eastern Conference. Although the lead the trimmed by the intermission, Lincoln was in front 25-24.
Lead by Miller and Mook Shepler, who each scored six points in the third period, the Patriots charged to a 38-32 lead.
“Our guys had a renewed energy in the second half and we hit some shots,” Moses said. “I’m very proud of our collective defensive effort. We had 13 guys prepare for their opportunity and it was a great team win tonight.”
Miller finished with a dozen points in the final stanza as the Patriots put the game away to win their eighth in a row to go to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the league.
Shepler had 12 points and Cameron Donovan added 10.
Garrett Pumphrey and Caleb Craig led the Golden Eagles with nine points apiece.
Bryce Smith tossed in eight points and Hayden Pierce had six.
Union County won the JV game 53-29 as Blake Fields had 23 points. Luke Paddock had eight and Tate Swafford had six.
Dyaln Asher led the Golden Eagles with 10 and Keaton Southerland had nine.
Both teams return to action on Saturday afternoon as Union County travels to Shenandoah (13-4), while Lincoln (7-10, 1-3) visits Tri High (5-8, 1-3) for a TEC affair.
