The top performances in Major League Baseball this week were by Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Sonny Gray of the Oakland A’s.
Gonzalez blasted three homers and knocked in four runs in a 7-4 Los Angeles win over the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium on April 8.
The Dodgers first baseman hit solo long balls off Padres starter Andrew Cashner in the first, third and fifth innings. He added a RBI single in the sixth off Nick Vincent.
Gray’s outing on the mound in Oakland led to an 8-0 Opening Day victory over the Texas Rangers.
The righthander tossed eight innings and surrendered one hit, while striking out three. Gray had 66 strikes in his 98-pitch effort. Ryan Rua led off the eight inning with the lone hit for the Rangers.
