The top performances in Major League Baseball this week were by Brandon Phillips of the Cincinnati Reds and Taijuan Walker of the Seattle Mariners.
According to the scoreboard at Great American Ball Park, Phillips became the first player in the big leagues since 1920 to have four hits, two homers, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases in a game during the Reds 15-5 win over Pittsburgh in Cincinnati on Thursday, July 30.
In 2015, Phillips is batting .279 with seven long balls and 39 RBI.
On Friday, July 31, Walker only had one blemish in a 6-1 win at Minnesota. He surrendered a solo homer to Miguel Sano in the fourth inning for the Twins hit in the contest.
The right-hander tossed a complete game as he fanned 11 Twins, while allowing just one walk in 101 pitches.
Walker is now 8-7 this with a 4.73 ERA.
