The top performances in Major League Baseball this week were by Randal Grichuk of the St. Louis Cardinals and Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Grichuk was three-for-three as the Cardinals won 12-2 at home against the New York Mets on Saturday, July 18.

After getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning, Grichuk hit a pair of homers. He blasted a two-run shot in the fifth and added a three-run bomb in the eighth.

This season, Grichuk is batting .281 with nine homers and 32 RBI.

Kershaw blanked the Washington Nationals for eight innings in his first start after the all-star break. The Dodgers ended up with a 4-2 win in Washington.

The lefty surrendered three hits, while striking out 14 as he threw 101 pitches. This year, he is 7-6 with a 2.68 ERA and 174 strikeouts, which leads the majors.
