The top performances in Major League Baseball this week were by Mike Montgomery of the Seattle Mariners and Neil Walker of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Montgomery tossed a one-hitter against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Tuesday, June 30.
In Seattle’s 5-0 win, Montgomery struck out seven, while walking four as he threw 113 pitches. Yangervis Solarte broke up the no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a ground rule double to left.
Montgomery is now 4-2 on the season with an ERA of 1.62 and 31 strikeouts.
Walker had four hits in Pittsburgh’s 9-3 win over Detroit at Comerica Park. He hit a pair of homers and knocked in three runs. He also scored three times and had a stolen base.
This season, Walker is batting .278 with six home runs and 32 RBI.
