The top performances in Major League Baseball this week were by Shelby Miller of the Atlanta Braves and Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians.
Miller (5-1) came within one out of a no-hitter against the Miami Marlins on May 17. Justin Bour broke up the gem with a two-out single in the ninth. Dee Gordon followed with another single before Miller closed the door on the Marlins. He struck out four and had one walk.
Kluber (1-5) tossed eight innings in a 2-0 Cleveland victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on May 13. He had 18 strikeouts, while allowing one hit in the seventh inning by Jhonny Peralta.
Kluber was one off the Indians strikeout record for a game. Luis Tiant fanned 19 in a 10-inning outing against the Twins in 1968. Bob Feller had 18 strikeouts against the Tigers in 1938 in a 9-inning affair.
