CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Kayla Newman of Centerville announced her college choice on Thursday as she officially selected Earlham College.
“The close niche family atmosphere is what I wanted,” said Newman, who is the daughter of Dave and Misty Newman. “It was kind of bonus that I got to stay so close.”
Rob Hewitt and Claire Hewitt are the co-head coaches for cross country and track teams.
“He was more focused on my academics rather than my running,” Newman said. “I had not had a coach do that before.”
Newman had enjoyed the time with her future teammates.
“It was a really cool experience to have a team that was so inviting to me,” she said.
Newman plans on studying Global Management with a minor in Political Science.
“It give me a better rounded career path,” Newman said of he academic decision.
During the 2017 season, Newman qualified for the semi-state as an individual for the second straight year after competing with the team during the regional.
She was also an All-Tri-Eastern Conference performer as she finished third in that event.
Earlham is a NCAA Div. III school in Richmond, Ind. The Quakers compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
