MARION, Ind. – In a battle of Class 2A ranked teams on Thursday, the Northeastern boys basketball team came up short in a 68-63 loss to Oak Hill.
After being tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, the second-ranked Knights built a 31-18 halftime lead. They were on top 50-33 after three.
However, No. 3 Oak Hill (8-0) out scored Northeastern 35-13 in the final period to pick up the victory.
Tyler Smith led Northeastern with 23 points to get closer to the top position in the all-time scoring list for the Knights.
Smith is second on the list with 1,438 points in his career, while Cory Ryan (1995-1999) is the current leader with 1,445.
Freeman Brou added 10 points and and a team-high seven rebounds. Jordan Stolle finished with nine points.
Nate Reynolds tossed in seven points to go with four steals. Harrison Rice contributed six points and Jalen Hillard had four points with five assists.
The Knights (6-1) return to action in the Jeffersonville Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 27. The Knights face Fox Creek from Kentucky in the opener at 10 a.m.
