The boys basketball pre-season rankings are out and Northeastern is nearly at the top of the list.
The Knights are in the No. 2 spot in the Associated Press Class 2A poll behind top-ranked Indianapolis Howe.
Northeastern Head Coach Brent Ross was happy with the recognition, but he’s focused on what happens on the court.
“The best thing I can say is what I have posted in our locker room,” Ross said. “Being ranked is great for our kids and our community. However, rankings are what others think of you. Results are what you think of yourself.”
The Knights were 22-4 last season as they claimed the Tri-Eastern Conference and sectional titles.
Howe was 18-4 last season and lost 63-31 to Indianapolis Scecina in the opening round of the sectional. Scecina is No. 3 in the pre-season poll. Howe starts its season at Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Northeastern opens the season on the road at Monroe Central on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
