FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – The Northeastern softball team opened Tri-Eastern Conference play on Thursday with a 5-1 victory over defending champ Centerville.
Katie Schneider tossed a complete game to earn the victory for the Knights as she gave up four hits and fanned a dozen Bulldogs, who were playing their first contest of the season.
For the Knights, Leah Hoskins led the way with three hits and Carli Williams added a pair of singles. Both players knocked in two runs.
Centerville picked up its run in the first frame, while the Knights scored three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Lauren Honkomp took the loss for Centerville on the mound as she went the distance for the Bulldogs. She was also responsible for Centerville’s run with a triple and then she later scored on a wild pitch.
Northeastern (2-2, 1-0) entertain conference foe Tri on Friday.
Centerville (0-1, 0-1) is back in action in the Richmond Invitational on Saturday where the Bulldogs will play the host Red Devils and Jay County.
