WINCHESTER, Ind. – A pair of second quarter touchdowns was all Northeastern needed as the Knights posted a 14-7 victory over Winchester on Friday night.
Both teams survied a long weather delay in the Tri-Eastern Conference affair featuring AP ranked teams. The Knights are No. 13 in the latest football poll, while the Golden Falcons are No. 10.
Ryan Hartmann’s 2-yard run with 5:58 remaining in the second quarter put the Knights on top 8-0, after a conversion run by Jacob Auger.
Auger then connected on a 10-yard scoring pass with Connor Bray on the final play of the first half to make it 14-0 at the intermission.
Winchester got on the scoreboard in the last quarter when Boo Enis grabbed a 15-yard touchdown pass from Austin Lawrence with 1:32 left in the contest. Adam Hollinger booted the PAT for the Golden Falcons to cut their deficit in half.
Hartmann led the Knights offense with 189 yards on 28 carries. Auger completed 3-of-6 passes for 36 yards.
Bray had one catch for 10 yards with Cole Retter grabbing another pass for 20 yards. Josh Tudor had one reception for three yards.
Gunnar Adams and Nathan Fletcher led the the Knights with five tackles each.
For Winchester, Lawrence was 5-of-20 on pass attempts for 72 yards. Elias Gates had 46 yards in 10 rushing attempts to go with two catches for 30 yards.
Enis added a pair of receptions for 22 yards and Hollinger had one grab for 15 yards.
Defensively for Winchester, Jonathan Thornburg and Kody Pollic led the way with 14 tackles apiece. Hunter Younce added 13.
The Knights (2-0, 1-0) travel to Eastern Hancock next Friday, while the Golden Falcons (1-1, 0-1) visit TEC foe Hagerstown.
