LIBERTY, Ind. – Union County defeated Northeastern 18-8 in Tri-Eastern Conference football action on Friday night.
Derek Dearth led the Patriots with 217 yards rushing, including a 91-yard touchdown in the opening period.
Zach Weston picked up a Northeastern fumble in the second quarter and returned it 30 yards for a score as Union County led 12-0.
Later in the second, Cole Retter scored for the Knights on a 1-yard run. After he added the 2-point conversion, the Knights trailed 12-8 at the intermission.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Patriots added the final touchdown in the fourth when Blake Field tossed a 20-yard pass to Nate Webb.
Fields completed 10-of-19 for 114 yards. Ryan Hensley had three grabs for 74 yards.
For Northeastern, Retter had 74 yards yards on the ground, while Dylan McDaniel added 30 yards.
Tucker Coffman led Union County’s defense with eight tackles. Webb, Hensley had five tackles each.
Retter led the Knights with eight tackles and an interception. Kaleb Loaiza had six stops.
The Patriots (4-3, 3-2) entertain Centerville next Friday, while the Knights (3-4, 2-3) travel to Lincoln.
