CENTERVILLE, Ind. – The Union County baseball team needed just five innings on Friday with Mook Shelper tossing a no-hitter as the Patriots blanked Winchester 10-0 to advance to the Class 2A sectional finale at Centerville.
“Very proud of Mook Shepler,” Union County Head Coach Jeff Mathews said. “He pitched a really nice ball game.”
“I thought we played very well tonight,” Mathews continued. “I thought our hitting was very solid. Mason Miller has just been knocking to cover off the baseball and our defense was also exceptionally good.”
The Patriots (23-6) face Northeastern (15-9) in Monday’s championship contest at 7 p.m. The Knights defeated Centerville 9-5 to reach the finale.
“I watched 13 innings of them playing in this sectional and they only gave up three hits,” Mathews said. “We’re gonna have to figure out a way to to to get something going against that team.”
Caleb Greene had three hits including a triple as he drove in three runs for the Patriots.
Miller had two hits and knocked in three runs.
Leighton Schulte added a pair of hits, while Shepler had two RBI.
