CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Although his team played well in its opener in Wednesday’s Healthy Hoopla Tournament at Lincoln, Union County Head Girls Basketball Coach Scott Gray wanted to end with a win.
The Patriots finished with a 62-31 victory over Cowan in the consolation game in the one-day event.
“It was more about how are we going to play and how are we going to finish (the tournament),” Gray said of his squad’s focus. “That win makes it a decent day. It’s a good day for us to find out where we are in the middle of the season.”
Union County is now 9-6 overall with six wins in its last seven contests.
Grabbing an early 17-4 lead after the first period, the Patriots put the game away by halftime with a 38-10 lead.
Maddie Fulton scored 25 points to lead the Patriots, while Sammie Elleman added eight points and seven rebounds.
Tanner Henry and Madison Walters both tossed in seven points and Walters had seven rebounds.
Tara Williams had six points to finish her day with 23 in both contests.
Union County is off until the Patriots entertain Seton on Wednesday, January 6.
