RICHMOND, Ind. – The Union County baseball team split a doubleheader with Richmond on Monday night at McBride Stadium as the Patriots fell 7-4 in the opener before rebounding for a 7-0 win in the second contest.
In the opener, Nate Webb and Justin Witter led the Patriots with two hits each.
The Patriots fell behind 7-0 before their offense got started. Mook Shepler had a two-run double and Webb scored on a wild pitch as the Patriots cut the deficit to 7-3 in the sixth. In the seventh, Shepler added a RBI ground out.
Union County kept the pressure on the Red Devils in the second contest as the Patriots scored three times in the first inning.
Preston Scott led off with a single and one out later Shepler blasted a homer to make it 2-0. The Patriots added an unearned run before the frame was over.
Cameron Donovan made it 4-0 in the third as he knocked in a run with an infield single.
Caleb Greene singled home a pair of runs in the sixth as the Patriots increased their advantage to 6-0. The final tally came on a bases loaded walk to Witter.
Scott went the distance on the mound in the second contest as he blanked the Red Devils on eight hits.
Union County (8-5) travels to Union City for a Tri-Eastern Conference game on Tuesday.
