LIBERTY, Ind. – The Union County boys basketball team remained on top in the Tri-Eastern Conference on Wednesday as the Patriots defeated Centerville 41-23.
“I’m happy with how our guys came out and played,” Union County Head Coach Jesse Moses said. “You don’t win in the TEC unless you’ve earned it.”
With their seventh straight win, the Patriots are 12-3 overall and lead the conference at 5-0.
“We’re happy to be where we are at, but we’re not done,” Moses said. “This is a nice step for us. We have a hungry group of guys.”
The Patriots forced seven Centerville turnovers in the opening period as they built a 17-8 advantage.
“We really take pride in our defense,” Moses said. “We rotated so dang well.”
“We closed out on shooters and helped each other out,” Moses added. “We want teams to know we’re going to get after it.”
Union County maintained its margin by halftime and the Patriots were in front 35-16 after three quarters.
Preston Scott led the way with 12 points as the Patriots had a balanced attack.
Mason Miller tossed in seven points and grabbed nine rebounds. Cameron Sanford, Mook Shepler and Cameron Donovan all had six points. Donovan also added seven rebounds.
For the Bulldogs, Kody Witham led the way with seven points.
Justin DuPree finished with six points and 10 rebounds. Dante Torres had four points.
Union County won the JV contest 51-46 with Nate Webb leading the Patriots with 18 points. Blake Fields added 10 points. Tate Swafford had eight points and Hunter Sherwood contributed seven.
Kobe Brown led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Mitchell Kelley tossed in 11 and Clete Schilling had six.
Centerville (6-8, 0-3) is at Knightstown (5-8, 3-3) on Friday, while Union County travels to Jac-Cen-Del (6-8) on Saturday.
