UNION CITY, Ind. – The second quarter proved to be the difference on Friday night as the Union County boys basketball team picked up a 58-50 win over Union City.
After finishing the first period of the Tri-Eastern Conference affair tied at 9-9, the Patriots built a 26-16 advantage by halftime.
The Patriots were able to maintain their edge the rest of the way.
“We had a nice second quarter run to go up 10 at half and were able to extend it to 15,” Union County Head Coach Mark Detweiler said. “Our ball movement was solid with 13 assists.”
Logan Sanford led the Patriots with 21 points, while Dillon Miller added 18.
Isaac Davison topped the Indians with 17 points and Isaac Jefferis finished with 14.
“I thought we played well, but had some mental lapses defensively,” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said. “Offensively, we didn’t attack as much as I would have liked.”
“Credit Union County’s defense, they did a great job keeping us out of the middle and made us take tough shots,” Baldwin added.
Union County also won the JV game 46-41.
