HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Drew Pyle is ready for the next step in his baseball career.
On Tuesday, he signed with Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.
“I really liked the campus and the coaches,” Pyle said. “They seemed to know what they were doing and it seemed like the best option to me.”
The Mastodons are coached by Bobby Pierce and they compete in the Summit League, which has nine schools with the University of Denver being farthest from Indiana.
“Drew Pyle is an excellent fit at IPFW,” Hagerstown Head Coach Brad Catey said. “He is a kid who has gotten bigger and stronger each year, he works hard all season, summer and winter to make himself a better pitcher.”
Pyle is the son of Chris and Heather Pyle.
“You couldn’t ask for a nicer kid and family to have this opportunity to play Div. I baseball,” Catey said “I know its something his dad and him have been working towards since Drew was eight years old.”
Pyle was 8-1 last season with an ERA of 1.01 for the Tigers, who finished 22-4 overall as they won the Tri-Eastern Conference and Class 1A sectional crown.
“I’m excited to see his improvement after doing the powerhouse performance workouts that he did at Cate’s Cages with Jordan Ashbrook,” Catey said. “It should help him have another stellar season like last year with a little extra velocity to go with his power curve. This will help him as he gets ready for the jump to the college game.”
This season, Pyle has a simple goal.
“I will mostly work on hitting my spots better and work on my velocity and try to get better as an overall pitcher.” he said.
As a hitter, Pyle batted .307 a year ago with a homer and 14 RBI.
