CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – A fast start helped the Lincoln boys basketball team on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles defeated the Indiana Math & Science Academy 63-51.

“I thought we did a really nice job of coming back on a short period of time,” Lincoln Head Coach Rodney Klein said of his team’s back-to-back games during the weekend.

The Golden Eagles dropped a 60-55 overtime decision at Knightstown on Friday.

“Early, we really were focused,” Klein said. “We were in tune and we got our offense going so things were going well. I was proud of our effort.”

Lincoln jumped out to a 12-0 advantage as Luke Isaacs capped the run when he scored at the 3:25 mark of the opening period. By the end of the frame, the Golden Eagles led 20-6.

By halftime, Lincoln was in control of the contest with a 34-15 lead. The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 50-26 at the third stop.

“We were worried about their quickness because they are so athletic,” Klein said. “Once we broke the traps, we found guys inside and we had a lot of easy looks.”

The Golden Eagles (3-3) had 14 players appear in the contest.

“We’ve just got to keep getting better,” Klein said. “We got everybody in today and I think that’s important. All of our kids came in and did some good things.”

Darius Coffy led the Knights (2-5) with 34 points as he hit seven 3-pointers.

Lincoln also played a “C” team contest with Randolph Southern. Adam Foster scored 20 points for the Golden Eagles as they lost 42-37.
