Editor’s note: The Reds Decade Tournament games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur.
Many Cincinnati Hall of Fame inductees will take part in the Reds Decade Tournament.
Fans will recognize most of the players in this eight-team tourney that features Reds squads that did not make the post-season as one team was selected to represent each decade from 1910-1989.
The teams competing are from 1911, 1924, 1934, 1948, 1955, 1964, 1977 and 1986. The rules for this tournament include a three-man pitching rotation that starts over with each best-of-three game series. If a real life starter is not in the rotation, he can be used in relief.
The pairings were not seeded, but they were selected so that several players would not face themselves at least in the first round.
Pete Rose, Dave Concepcion, Ted Kluszewski, Johnny Temple, Joe Nuxhall and Mario Soto are a part of multiple teams.
Rose leads the way as he will be playing three different positions in three lineups at second base (1964), third base (1977) and first base (1986).
